Over 200 Parcels Of Drugs Destroyed In San Pedro

The Belize Police Department's Anti Drug Unit and uniformed operations conducted a drug destruction in San Pedro, legally discarding over 200 parcels of drugs and illegal substances. Jomarie Lanza has this report.

The boxes may have been emblazoned with corporate logos like Amazon, but inside their contents comprised countless drug seizures made by San Pedro police. They were loaded into police transports and taken to the grave site area of San Pedro, where cannabis, cocaine, crack cocaine and hashish were all inspected and certified by a magistrate and forensic officers. After the quantities and contents were certified, a total of 226 parcels of drugs were destroyed by fire.

69 of the parcels were what are known as found property and the remaining 157 were parcels of court exhibits for concluded cases totaling to 30 kilos or 66 pounds of cannabis, 5.7 kilos or 13 pounds of cocaine, 13 ounces of crack and 8 pounds of hashish. The destruction process commenced at 11 a.m. and finished 3 hours later at 2 p.m..
