Construction Of Artisan Market Continues After Failed Injunction In San Pedro
posted (February 7, 2025)
Back in September 2024, we took you to San Pedro where you heard from artisans and fishers about a market that the Ministry of Tourism was proposing to build. This market would be in the Embarcadero area which would, one, force the artisans who are stationed near the Saca Chiapas Field to relocate again - and to a much less trafficked area - and, two, it would block the fishers who use that area to build traps and dock their boats. So the two groups joined forces to protest against the structure. They then filed an injunction in court. But that has now been discontinued.

Reports tell us that the court ruled in GOB's favor and the claimants - the residents and users of the Embarcadero area - dropped their claim. So the construction of the artisan market will continue. Where the fishers will go now, and whether the artisans will willingly move, is up in the air.
