Mold At Magistrate's Court Bldg Forces Closure

The Belize City Magistrate's Court has a bad case of mold - and it has forced the closure of the court. A release says a decision has been taken to close Belize City Magistrate court with immediate effect to treat the mold infestation that is causing hazardous health issues to the staff and the public within the building. As a result, the Belize City Magistrate Court was closed from noon today until Monday, 17th February 2025.

We asked the attorney general about it today:

"So, as you may know, whilst the judiciary, the attorney general's ministry, substantively has the responsibility to facilitate provisions and allocations. On a day to day basis, where you wouldn't necessarily be in tune with what's taking place, but, late last week, I was apprised of the situation with respect to, the mood infestation and Obviously the decision to, a decision was taken to address the matter. And so, yesterday, speaking with the chief magistrate, and of course, after she consulted with the chief justice a decision was taken that there would be the closure of the court until we have sorted that matter out."

"So, persons who have matters which are adjourned A notice has been sent out and those persons who would have had live matters have been adjourned to I think, commencing the following week."

The court will resume normal working hours on Tuesday, 18th February 2025.
