PM Says Injunction Can't Interfere With His Right To Call Elections
posted (February 14, 2025)
And while that mass party leader has endless troubles ahead -the man leading the PUP is in cruise control as he prepares to lead his party into another general election.

The only slight bother the PUP has is an attack on multiple fronts as election reformers are trying to get the courts to stop the election until a re-districting is held.

He said the setting a date for election is a core function of his office:

John Briceno, Prime Minister
"I can't speak much about it, but I can tell you that we have followed the law and we have acted in good faith and when the lawyers asked us last week if we are going to call the elections and dissolve the house, last week Friday the National Assembly at the house meeting we answered, and it was no. Now I am told that they wrote a letter I think on Friday./. I was out for one day for a meeting. I came in and went straight to Belmopan to the house meeting. I got in at about 12:30 and I was busy so I could not respond to the letter and by the time we responded I think it was on Monday night. Basically I am saying that it is the constitutional right of the prime minister to decide when he wants to call an election. They don't give notice, they just go and say I want to call an election. Then this is something that has been in the works for a few months now. I have been discussing with my key advisors when we think would be the best, so my call to elections had nothing to do with what these people are trying to do."
