As we told you earlier in the news, the UDP could be fielding a multitude of candidates in the General election - because both Shyne and Tracy will try to present their candidates under the UDP banner.
But in Port Loyola, it's even more complicated. That's where the UDP could see three candidates trying to identify as red: Nelma Mortis for Shyne, Phillip Willoughby for Tracy and now, Boots Martinez has also put up political signs. Today he told Jules Vasquez that - of the three - he is the one true UDP candidate:
Jules Vasquez
"What are you doing, though, because neither of the two DPs, they got two DP, and neither of them want you."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"And I am the real UDP, longest serving active member in this party from 1980, the longest champion, I am a four-time champion in a row, you know, sir."
Jules Vasquez
"You're retired, so why are you still running?"
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Because people like them people here ask me to come back to release them. They are the punishing."
Jules Vasquez
"But they have two UDP candidates, Willoughby for Tracy and Nelma Mortis for Shyne. why not help me them?"
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Mek I tell you something? First thing, mek I categorise - all three candidates, all potential candidates, Um, Osher, he is too old to be a rookie. That man do nothing. He fight and it's coming to reality, you could pull it up and say that at the rate with what we are dealing with housing, he only get two and a half houses in five years, but he is living up to that, sir."
Jules Vasquez
"But watch Pen Road right over there, the man paved nice cement road."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"But that was paved already, sir, under my tenure."
Jules Vasquez
"Paved and broke up because the chip and steal, chip and steal, I di tell you, straight up."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"But if it is chip and seal, mek I tell you something."
Jules Vasquez
"Chip and steal, I said."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"But listen to me, listen to me. I wah tell you this. Inna anything, they street, will broke up, if you don't maintain them. All these streets were in good shape. Da who did whole of Central American Boulevard from civic passing to Port Loyola. Whole of Faber's Road from one end to the next."
Jules Vasquez
"You have your record that you're talking about. and you're back here running but you are just going to make sure that Gilroy Usher wins again because if a person is a UDP they have three choices, so they vote will split three ways."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"If a person is a UDP, I am Boots, a lot of supporters. You know Philip Willoughby and them were playing games, you know that. I don't know why he no go look for a JOB. Mek I tell you what is the problem here in Port Loyola. They won't have any ploy. There is a ploy in terms of, ever since I have noticed this trend with Mr. Willoughby. How you is the standard bearer for UDP? You have PUP, PUP got my PUP area representative and you get more school paper signed over the area representative, then turn around and married your opponent daughter, who is taking care of you because you don't have a job, that is the truth."
Jules Vasquez
"Aye, you don't know that man. No talk di people them bedroom business."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"That is not bedroom business, I am saying to you, if I am married to you, or you are married to somebody, and you are not working, and I am working, what that mean? I'm not being personal neither, nothing is wrong, you know."
Jules Vasquez
"But maybe the man no have a nine to five, but he is out here hustling."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Well, I don't know about nine to five, but I let me tell you what happened. He have been since March of last year, he have been out of the country. He just come back here two times since he's gone, and nothing is wrong, you know, because marriage is a wonderful thing, but you can have father-in-law, and son-in-law, the war, in the same constituency."
"What happened? The people are punishing now. What happened if, if the people decide to go otherwise, then you have a thing that I hope that it's allowable. My granny used to tell me you could change seat, but you can't change ass, your family is your family, your wife is your wife, Mr Usher is your father-in-law, Mr Usher wife is your mother-in-law, his daughter is your wife, Tutsi and all of them are your brothers-in law and your sister-in-law. Life is real, you know, sir."
Jules Vasquez
"Nelma Mortis, then, jump support behind Nelma."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Nelma, she lives in port."
Jules Vasquez
"You not live in the port, you live in Belama."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Listen to me, she lives in port. You want to run in politics and you don't even transfer yourself. You not even register one person. You see one thing I could say, 85% of the residents of port I know by face, by name, by nickname. I know where they live, even who not live here. But one thing I will say that you can have your view about me, about, oh, this ass di come back again, but you know da who di come."
"So every man, woman, dog, and cat know who Boots Martinez is. I am a household name."
Jules Vasquez
"That we can't argue about."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"And watch this now. That is it."
Jules Vasquez
"So now, what, you're running as an independent?"
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Me, di run as an independent?"
Jules Vasquez
"Well you are not a UDP, you will not get the red beside your name."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"Why? Why?"
Jules Vasquez
"Because that red is owned either by Tracy or Shyne. And none of them have selected you."
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"I have a valid certificate, sir."
"A valid certificate. Stamp as the Standard Bearer for Port Loyola."
Jules Vasquez
"What year is that?"
Boots Martinez, Candidate - Port Loyola
"2024 August 21st."
