Following that interview - which was like a political bodyshot, the UDP issued a press release saying that Paredez had been removed as a candidate on February 10th. Of course, no public announcement was made of this at the time.
But the leader who recruited her, Shyne Barrow, was forewarned of her history of switching colors at the drop of a hat. Still, at the time, he ignored the warnings and sang her praises. This is the interview from January 28th.
Reporter:
"Ms Paredes who you now have in Collet, she on social media supporting the PUP in October 2020 right before the General Election, she posted a Facebook post supporting the PUP, she was also a member of John Saldivar's camp as well."
Shyne Barrow, Party Leader, UDP
"So what's wrong with that? Tracy Panton was a member of the PUP, I could send you the video where she declares that she worked for the Mark Espat camp so now people can't go from PUP to UDP? It happened many times in the history of our parliamentary voting. I remember Elito, Phillip Goldson, Theodore Aranda."
"You don't talk about Ms Paredes, you talk about her taking a picture with the PUP or John Saldivar, you don't talk about her Masters in Policy Planning, you don't talk about those things, that would be the type of credible candidate, you don't talk about the fact that she's a lifelong educator and she actually used to teach in Collet, you know those are the things you should be talking about, man."
Again, that interview from January 28th.
And with nomination day on the 24th, Barrow has one week to find a new standard bearer for Collet if he wants to have 31 candidates on his slate.
