In 2022, Erwin Lanza pleaded guilty to the sexual assault and unlawful sexual intercourse of a female child- namely a 9 year old relative. At the time, Justice Sandcroft sentenced him to a 3 year suspended sentence.

Well, the DPP viewed that as too lenient and challenged it at the Court of Appeal. She argued that the judge made an error in imposing a sentence that was below the statutory minimum.

At the end of last month, the panel agreed and set aside the sentence imposed by Justice Sandcroft and, instead, sentenced Lanza to 3 years

for the Sexual Assault of a female child below the age of 16, and 12 years for the offence of Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a female child below the age of 14 years. And the court ruled, quote, "The sentences are to run concurrently, with effect from February 2, 2025 the day after

the Respondent is scheduled to be released from prison for other offences for which he is currently
