Jaguar Knocked Down In Hope Creek, 2 More May Have Been Shot In Belize District
posted (February 20, 2025)
Untitled Document A heartbreaking video, which emerged on social media platforms, shows a juvenile female jaguar that was knocked down and killed on the Coastal Highway near Hope Creek Village. The passerby who made the video said that it was left on the side of the road - most likely knocked down:

"Just found a little Jaguar on the road a little female. When I passed there were three vehicles parked there. A van and 2 other SUV's and I managed to pick up her. I went back and looked at it because the people they left, and they left her on the edge of the road. Sad, very sad to see a cat like this. You know. But we looked at it and saw some little pellets in her, maybe it's something that we believe that they run over her because it's still fresh, it's still the body is still hot. Pretty animal."

"You don't get to see this all the time."

"This is the 6th Jaguar I done see but first one i find dead."

The big cat's body has since been retrieved by the Belize Zoo and they will do a proper burial.

And reports suggest this jaguar isn't the only one that was killed recently. Two jaguars were reportedly shot somewhere in the Belize District by a foreigner. That incident is currently still being investigated by the Forest Department.
