In A New PUP Admin, Fonseca Does Not See His Overloaded Portfolio As Sustainable
posted (February 20, 2025)
Untitled Document And what about the Ministry of Foreign Affairs? Fonseca took it up in late 2023 after Eamon Courtenay unexpectedly left the government and returned to his private law practice.

That left Fonseca with a very heavy portfolio of Ministerial assignments including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade Education, Culture, Science and Technology.

He today conceded that in a new cabinet configuration he would not expect to carry all those portfolios:

Jules Vasquez:
"You are currently the MOFA/MOECST would you in another administration wish to retain, if things were remaining as they are - and that's completely not foreseeable - would you retain all those portfolios, that heavy load?"

Francis Fonseca, Minister MOFAFTECST
"Yeah. Well, as you absolutely rightly pointed out, that's not my decision at all. But I think, no, I don't think so. I think those are very, very important ministries, very serious work. Dedicated attention. So I think, you know, that was a short term, I think, arrangement, given the circumstances. I don't see it at all happening in another term of government. You know, so, ideally you want a minister responsible for education and culture, and you want a minister dedicated to focusing on foreign affairs and foreign trade. So I don't see that happening in a next government."
