Cop Who Shot Mentally Ill Man Charged
posted (February 21, 2025)
PC Sheldon Arzu - he's the cop who shot 24 year old Emil Rivers in the abdomen on a verandah in Independence Village, and today he was criminally charged.

The video of the shooting went viral on social media. Rivers had a weapon in hand and was surrounded by officers who had three guns trained on him. But Rivers is mentally ill and Arzu shot him in the abdomen.

Today the ComPol gave us an update on the investigation.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"He is on interdiction, well, not interdiction, he was on suspension pending the outcome of the investigation. We have gotten the directive of the DPP I think on Wednesday to proceed with charges of dangerous harm. Today he will be charged for dangerous harm and should be appearing in front of the court this afternoon."

Reporter:
"What about the young man? He was in the hospital and my understanding is that, under police guard, and charges were expected against him."

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"He was to be charged in respect to the matter against Inspector Rosado so that is still going to proceed."

As we have reported, it is not Arzu's first criminal charge.

In 2005, he was convicted of manslaughter for killing a man inside a police station and sentenced to 13 years in prison for it. He was allowed to re-enlist in the police department after that.

Arzu will also need to go before a police tribunal to face internal charges.
