Tonight, a BDF border patrol team that was caught on camera buying supplies in Monte Los Olivos, Guatemala, is under scrutiny. The footage shows the soldiers at a village store, not properly dressed, with their weapons slung behind their backs. Local Guatemalan media has seized upon the excursion - saying the soldiers stormed into the village in a Toyota Hilux and were intimidating the villagers.
Tonight, the BDF Chief of Staff told us in a statement, quote, "We recognize the concerns raised by this footage, particularly regarding the soldiers' attire and the manner in which they were handling their weapons.
We want to assure the public that an investigation is currently underway to thoroughly assess the situation and to ensure that all appropriate protocols and conduct standards are upheld by our personnel. The safety and security of our borders, as well as the integrity of our operations, remain our top priorities.
We appreciate the vigilance of the community in bringing this matter to our attention." End quote.
