EBC Hasn't Seen Shyne's Proposed Lawsuit
posted (February 27, 2025)
Untitled Document As we've been reporting - all 41 candidates who call themselves UDP will be able to use the color red on the ballot on election day. Seems like a recipe for disaster - especially in areas like Port Loyola where 3 candidates are claiming the color red.

Well, Shyne Barrow had threatened a lawsuit against the Elections and Boundaries Commission ahead of their decision to allow all 41 UDP candidates to use the color red. But the EBC has yet to receive it and they say it's likely not going to change anything. Today the chairman explained that they only have a limited time to create and gazette the sample ballots - and even less time to spend in court.

Oscar Sabido Puga, Chairman, EBC
"We've had indications up and down that that is as a result of the fact that they have not been satisfied during the proceedings we've been having, matters of allocation of colors is not a matter which is determined just at one shot. We had 3 meetings actually when we were in effect indicating two factions which incidentally are represented within the very commission because one of them is an official of the party, of the executive and the other one is also a member of the party and has substantial influence in terms of the other faction. So we had a process and we have heard it but we've had nothing to indicate that that is happening in any way at this point."

"There have been previous proceedings and the court has not come down to any determination that would in effect prevent the elections from continuing and so it's hardly likely that they would be able to bring any matter before the court and have a determination."
