Man Freed From Murder Charge For Murdered Businesswoman
posted (February 28, 2025)
In 2022 a business woman, 35 year old Vanessa Acevedo was shot dead while closing up her establishment in Ladyville. The gunman had approached her and demanded money and though she was cooperating, he still pulled the trigger. A 17 year old was charged for her murder. And 3 years later, that teenager, 19 year old Dennis Jimenez, walked out of court a free man.

The DPP's crown entered a case of nolle prosequi after his main witness - who previously gave a statement which was entered into evidence - denied seeing anything on the day of the murder. The witness told the court that he could not identify the shooter.

Justice Derick Sylvester ruled that the caution statement and the notes of the interview inadmissible as evidence against Jimenez.

Jimenez was represented by attorney Leroy Banner.
