It's not uncommon to see a fight caught on camera in front of Shisha Lounge or Thirsty Thursday on a weekend. But this weekend, that fight involved city councillor Evan Thompson. According to a release from Thompson, he was attacked and acted in self-defense. He explained that witnesses and law enforcement confirmed this and he was never detained. He added that he has chosen not to press charges.
However, today the ComPol said that he gave instructions to charge both of the men.
Courtney Menzies:
"I don't believe a report was made but will the police be taking any action against any of these men?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I already sent that matter to Mr Romero with the instructions that those men must be picked up and charged."
Courtney Menzies:
"They will be charged for disorderly conduct?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Yes, as we normally do."
Courtney Menzies:
"Does it concern you, I mean, this is such a problematic area. Lots of fights happening out here, and I know police are always in that area but does it concern you that it seems like it's a problem that just can't be solved?"
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I won't say it can't be solved, we just need to do what needs to be done. I think that once we constantly arrests those involved it sends a message to other persons that once you do the same, you'll end up in the same situation. important is that we need to deal with those persons who get involved in these fights."
