Indeed, the specter of violence in the city seems to be stalking the election, but today the Commissioner assured the public that the department has it under control.

"I want to categorically and emphatically state to the Belizean people that it is going to be safe for them to come out and cast their vote tomorrow for elections. As much as yes we are stretched thin, particularly in Belize City, I have put together our operational plans for tomorrow to make sure that we have an adequate number of police officers from the specialized unit to conduct operations in Belize City tomorrow and those persons who we believe are problematic will be detained. They might not have the chance to vote but we are not going to put the elections at peril because of these people, it's not going to happen."

The Compol says 50 persons from the Faber's Road area have been detained.
