24 Hours Of No Major Crime On Election Day
posted (March 13, 2025)
And the Commissioner of Police was in the city very briefly on Election Day. But he was also in Cayo, Orange Walk, and Corozal. He moved around the country to ensure peace and security was maintained, and he said the police department was successful in ensuring that peace prevailed even amidst the political frenzy.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I would like to start off first by commending the police officers who worked the election process yesterday, the effort that they put up certainly led to us having a peaceful election process. We know that around election time, people are hyped and oftentimes the hype flows over into different activities that we may not want to see like fighting and the likes but I must say that we were able to perform our duties in such a way that we had no incidents during the election process and as a matter of fact I can do further to say that our national sitrep this morning reflects no major incident across the country for the entire 24 hours period which demonstrates again the police's effort in making sure the elections were conducted in a safe environment, so congrats to the police. We do understand the importance that police play in the democratic process. I know that there were some skeptics going into the election concerning the flare up we had over the weekend as to whether or not it would be safe for people to come out and vote and I had given the commitment to the Belizean people that we would do our utmost best in making sure that the environment for the election was safe and we achieved that and so I commend the police for the stellar performance."

"There were situations where the police had to be called in to address certain issues and again when police go and do that the candidates and their agents would normally comply with the police so there was good compliance coming from the candidates themselves in making sure that the work that the police and the election officers did was not as strenuous as we have seen in other times."

Reporter:
"Was one of Mr Gilroy Usher's son detained last night for being in possession of fireworks?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"He was detained for an investigation, police officers are dealing with that matter at this time and we will see how that goes from there."
