Tonight, the UDP is trying to pick up the pieces after the worst defeat in Belize's electoral history. There are multiple UDP candidates - all from the Shyne Barrow faction - who failed to get more than 100 votes - one of them didn't even get two dozen votes. And, in more than one municipality, the UDP ran third behind an independent candidate. And in another division, a UDP candidate had fewer votes than there were spoilt ballots.
It's a staggering, ruinous defeat where the PUP saw some margins that resemble what you might call video game numbers because they totally defy any known historical precedent.
Tonight, we'll recap some of the numbers in part one of our statistical election recap:
Tomorrow night- we'll have the numbers from the other 15 divisions.
