And keeping it in Corozal - we today asked the UDP's Hugo Patt what made him win in Corozal North - with a comfortable and larger margin than last time?
He said it's the cost of living:
Hugo Patt, UDP First Deputy
"I have to thank the people of Corozal North for remaining strong given all the odds that were happening within the party and so my commitment to them as I indicated to all of the families that I was able to visit and to those as well that I was not able to get in touch with and my message to them is this I remain committed to you my service is to you and I am here to serve you."
Jules Vasquez
"It's surprising the UDP even won five seats because you know they were so divided, people really didn't have belief in the strength or the seriousness of the opposition. Looking at it optimistically you'd have to say that well at least you won five seats. It could have been a sweep. PUP were certainly working towards a sweep."
Hugo Patt, UDP First Deputy
"Well that was indicated that there was one single among other things there was one single item that was hurting the Belizean people and that is the cost of living. I made it clear that while we have globally the issue of inflation, but there is a cost of living that has increased as a consequence of actions of this present government and so there is no two ways that you can tell somebody look the price of rice gone up, the price of sugar gone up, the price of veggies gone up, the price of everything is going up and there seems to be no stop to this and the people are punishing, the people are hurting and so I think that that message was sent across the whole with the whole country."
"I am certain that if we did not have the kind of fight that we had prior to the general elections, we would have had a good chance of forming the next government."
