The commissioner also agreed that police need more tools to de-escalate situations without the use of lethal force. Police will now embrace use of what's called a "pepper ball" gun.

For a donation of 50 of them, Compol Williams has turned to Michael Ashcroft:

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"But we have to give the police officers the tools that they need to be able to be more effective in responding to these types of issues. And so I'm happy to say that I had reached out to Lord Ashcroft following the independence issue with Mr Arzu."

"And I had wrote a proposal for a donation from him to the police for some pepper ball gun. And, he have generously agreed to donate to the police 50 of those."

"And those are going to be issued to police officers and are going to be used as a means of de-escalation. How the pepper ball gun works."

"How that works is that the police is going to if the person is behaving in a certain way, advancing to the police, the police is going to shoot you right here with the pepper ball gun. And when it touches you, it explodes and it sends a scent of pepper spray like. And that quells you, right? So it is a very effective tool."

The compol says they should get the guns in the next 2 to 3 weeks. He says officer will also receive training in its use.
