Fire Department Calls On City Hall To Demolish Fire Hazards
posted (March 25, 2025)
And according to Bucknor, abandoned lots and structures pose a huge problem for the department since fires tend to break out and spread quickly. He is appealing to the city council to assist in maintaining the empty lots and demolishing abandoned buildings.

Gladstone Bucknor, Station Officer, Belize City NFS
"Within that area, we have a lot of abandoned buildings. Some are derelict, some are neglected, and used for criminals activities and if we have these abandoned buildings like this around the neighborhood, it poses a fire hazard to the rest of the community, especially to other buildings as well because if anything does occur, imagine somebody lost their building due to a neglected building."

Reporter:
"What's the department's advice to the council or to the relevant authorities?"

Gladstone Bucknor, Station Officer, Belize City NFS
"Well we need to work together to demolish and take down these derelict buildings around the country, around the city."
