We know the Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing for building roads and bridges, but today they held an annual women's month sports day featuring women from various government ministries in Belmopan. The event consisted of team building activities, friendly games and emphasized the importance of women in the workplace. The Minister for Human Development addressed the opening ceremony:

"I want to share that globally women spend significantly more time on unpaid household and care work, which is cooking cleaning, child care elder care and so on more than men. This time commitment leaves women with less time and energy to engage in paid employment to pursue education or advance in your careers. And often leads to your lower earnings or fewer opportunities for economic advancement because while maybe men have more lee way the it comes to working extra hours or staying back at the office, a lot of us are looking at that clock and we need to leave at 5 because the baby sitter needs to go home, we need to go and knead and we need to go and find what to do for tea and we need to get on that homework and we still need to pass the shop and buy all the poster board for the project and then go home and do that so I get that."
"I want you to recognise that women's unpaid work provides a hidden subsidy to the rest of the economy because it underpins household functioning and care which are essential for a functioning society but it is often unrecognised and undervalued."

"Your dreams are valid, and no one can take away your potential. It's important to support one another and lift each other up because when women stand together the force becomes and unstoppable force. Never doubt your worth and never forget that you are exactly where you are suppose to be. Keep pushing forward and stay true to yourself and trust the process. Remember as Maya Angelou beautifully said we may encounter many defeats but we should never be defeated. But we must not be defeated. Keep going because the world is waiting for you to shine and always remember never ever forget you are all wonderfully and fearfully made thank you and enjoy today."
