Tomorrow, the rebuilding of the UDP begins in earnest with a National Party Council Meeting, which we expect to be led by Tracy Panton.
But, as they say, the devil never sleeps and already we can hear the drums of dissent beating in the background. A resolution was proposed to change the party constitution so that any members of the party can be party leaders, not just a member of the National Assembly.
We don't expect that it will be tabled tomorrow - but we get the sense that mischief is afoot - and on Monday, former leader Shyne Barrow was already reveling in it:
Shyne Barrow, Former Leader UDP "There are people that are passing a resolution forward to amend the constitution so that anyone can offer themselves to be leader."
Reporter
"Is there any request that's been made to change the constitution, to allow more people to vie for leadership?"
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition "What will happen moving forward is certainly a comprehensive review of the constitution of the United Democratic Party. There will be a full process. It could go as long as six months."
In a note to NPC members later in the week, Panton said, quote, "It has come to my attention that there are some of us who are agitating for Constitutional amendments.
Please be assured that a comprehensive review of the Party's Constitution is one of our highest priorities as we work at righting our ship. We will embark on a proper process of consultation..."
