A broad daylight shooting on Saturday in Belmopan shocked Garden City residents.
It was an attempted hit just after midday that resulted in one person being shot with non life threatening injuries. But was the gunman related to the victim, and what could have led him to attempt this brazen murder?
The police have been on the case since Saturday, and Courtney Menzies has this story.
This surveillance video shows the shocking moment of an attempted execution in Belmopan on Saturday morning. A white Suburban drives past a black Mazda, stopping long enough for a man in the backseat to lean out the window with a pistol and fire several shots at the other vehicles. The men in the vehicle scramble to safety.
Surprisingly, there were no fatalities, and only one person received minor injuries. But what led to this organized, targeted hit?
Well it seems the gunman and the victim had a dispute - and reports are the two are related.
But according to ACP Hilberto Romero, the police still have a lot of investigating to do.

"The vehicle involved in the shooting has been recovered and several persons are in custody pending investigation."
Courtney Menzies:
"Are the suspects related to the victim? At least one of the victims?"

"I am aware that they are known to each other, that's all I know."

"Motive?"

"Some internal feud involving Jamal Hyde."
Courtney Menzies:
"Is it a feud fueled by revenge?"

"Again, that is all the information that we have, they have some feud amongst themselves and that's what led to the shooting."
Reporter:
"Do police believe Jamal Hyde and his passengers were trailed by persons in the other vehicle?"
ACP Hilberto Romero, OCED
"Yeah, at some point, the Suburban came on the Mazda because the Mazda had been to several places in Belmopan prior to the shooting."
"There was a firearm recovered, again investigation is being carried out to determine if it can be linked to the shooting."
Reports suggest that the two men are cousins, and that the gunman was out for revenge.
So far, no arrests have been made...
