Panton also called for a bi partisan approach to counter the effects of inflation resulting from the new tariffs imposed worldwide by the US.
On Friday, we showed you the address from the Chairman of Caricom Mia Mottley who warned, quote, "This trade war and the possibility of a US $1 million to $1.5 million levy on all Chinese made ships entering US harbours will mean higher prices for all of us at the corner shop, higher prices at the supermarket, higher prices at the electronic store, higher prices for us at the shop, higher prices for us at the restaurant, higher prices for us at the car dealership and beyond."
Panton says it has to be all hands on deck in Belize:
Tracy Panton, Leader of the Opposition
"We need to pay attention to what is happening, in the global context. We all have heard the saying that when the US sneezes, Belize catches a cold. The tariffs will, in my opinion, raise the cost of living exponentially for Belizeans. And that is something that requires us all to put our best minds at the table to find the solutions, particularly for those who are most marginalized and vulnerable in our country."
"But I certainly think that it requires all hands on deck, the government, the opposition, it requires civil society. It requires a business community for us to sit down and come up with a strategic and comprehensive plan on how we are going to address this new development."
