His sentence was handed down today by justice Nigel Pilgrim, who ended up deducting 2 years off Pott's sentence since he had joined a prison reform program. Pott denied all allegations made by the victim in the trial and his common law wife and another relative testified on his behalf. But Justice Pilgrim rejected Pott's defense and also his two alibi witnesses of whom he concluded that either one of them or both were lying.

On the other hand, he regarded the victims testimony as credible and reliable.

In giving out his sentence the judge noted that it should send a message to the society, in particular men, that touching children will lead to consequences.
