And as you saw today the ComPol was in his standard khaki uniform, which he will be able to wear until the end of the month. That's because his unusually protracted transition period to CEO is still ongoing. And while Dr Rosado is handling day to day operations, Williams is still the commissioner. This is how he explained it.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"I am sure that you all read a press release that came from the Ministry of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries that outlined the timeline of my departure. Myself and Mr Rosado are going through a transition period, certainly yes as a part of that transition, I have assigned most of the day to day responsibility of the commissioner to Mr Rosado and I am just dealing with those issues that I have to deal with as the legally constituted commissioner of police and so we continue that transition period. Again, the objective of the ministry is to make sure that we can have a seamless transition where all the activities that are currently in motion, we have a number of projects and other things that I need to bring Mr Rosado up to speed with so that when he takes over we just need to make sure that those things continue and again, I have heard the criticism that this has not been in the past where you have transitions like this but again, you must understand that commissioners retire at age 55 so if you know that you're going to retire next year at age 55 you prepare for that and then obviously there's going to be someone that will be there to understudy you so that when your 55th age comes and you go off, that person then becomes the commissioner so it's not a situation where it should be you are the commissioner today and then tomorrow you're gone without having ensuring that your successor would have some level of experience in the seat and again that's the reason why we're going this, it is not that I want to stay, I have indicated that I would have wanted to leave on Monday gone, but again the transition is important and we're making sure it is done the right way and that's the reason why."
"I have also said to Mr Rosado that even though I'm leaving, if there's any situation that he would need my help or my support on any pertinent to the safety of this country and his success, I will be there to assist him because I live in Belize and the safety of my country is still important to me."
