Can Another Hijacking Happen?
posted (April 22, 2025)
Of course, the fingers can point in all directions - and the Minister in charge of immigration, civil aviation, and who also chairs the National Security Council - Prime Minister John Briceno is away on unannounced personal leave.

The Compol has called it a lesson for all the parties involved, and even with the correct security measures being put into place he says there is still a risk of it happening again, only this time we would know how exactly to respond and what protocols are in place.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"There is always a possibility for anything to reoccur, it is a matter for us to make sure that we learn from this experience. None of us who were involved in this entire process had any prior experience in dealing with a plane hijacking incident, none of us. But we had to be creative, we had to be reasonable and adapt strategies that we believe is going to work that is going to yield the result that we got. And I think that all the agencies involved, the police, civil aviation, the airport authority and the BDF really and truly performed exceptionally well, our efforts were well coordinated including BERT because BERT played a very very crucial role at the end when the plane landed. The medical service that they provided to the victims was critical at that juncture and so they need to be commended. But again from this experience now we certainly can put our minds together and see how we can develop a policy that is going to help us moving forward to ensure that, 1 there is no recurrence of this, and, 2, should there be any recurrence that we will be in a better position to respond."
