Barry Flowers Signed Out A Loaded Police Pistol While On Leave
posted (September 11, 2025)
There's not much new to report tonight on the Joseph Budna case. He remains in prison - while Assistant Commissioner of Police Suzette Anderson leads an investigation into his abduction. Her report will be submitted to the Cabinet at month's end. But 7News continues its own investigation - and tonight we have new evidence that Constable Barry Flowers signed out a service 9mm pistol the day before abduction and while he was on leave. This is important because in all his accounts Budna repeatedly says he was beaten with the butt of a gun. Jules Vasquez shows us this new evidence:

This logbook entry in the official SPU diary certifies the handing over of a CZ Brand 9MM pistol with 14 live rounds to Detective Constable 476 Barry Flowers on Thursday August 21st at 9:56 am.

At 9:59 AM, Flowers - who is listed on the official SPU detail as being on leave at the time - acknowledges receipt of the weapon and signs for it.

It happened here at the Mahogany Street substation - where weapons are never assigned to officers on leave.

Which brings us back to the same question - who could have authorized it?

Reports tell us the officer commanding the SPU, Aaron Gamboa says he gave no such authority - so who in the senior command did, and why?

Barry Flowers has been placed on interdiction - for the second time this year.
