15-Year-Old Charged for Tuesday's Mid-Afternoon Murder
posted (September 5, 2007)

And as we mentioned, Kirk Ortega’s was the second murder of the day. The first was Floyd “Cinco Seis” Gladden Jr. and the news tonight is that a 15-year-old minor has been charged for his murder. We first told you about the mid-afternoon murder of Gladden last night, but tonight we have the full story as we spoke to his grieving mother and sister.

Melanie Gladden, Sister of Murder Victim
“Just last week they killed my uncle and now this week it is my little brother. It is one week since my uncle dead, three days since they put him to rest, and now it is my little brother.”

Melanie Gladden’s little brother is 22-year-old Floyd Gladden Jr. Yesterday at 3 pm he was cleaning this yard at 16 Warrie Street when a gunman approached him and opened fire. He was shot 4 times and died. His mom is Jacqueline Crawford.

Jacqueline Crawford, Mother of Victim
“I don’t really know what happened because I live up in Hattieville. I was up there when I got the call that they had just shot Floyd from my brother.”

Jacqueline Crawford is the sister of George “Junie Balls” McKenzie. That makes Floyd Gladden, known to most as Cinco Seis, Junie Balls’ nephew. His mom says Floyd Jr. was close to Junie Balls and that may have led to his death.

Keith Swift,
“You know any reason why they would want to kill your son?

Jacqueline Crawford,
“I don’t know of any reason. The only thing I can say is that it is because of my brother. They killed my brother and then they killed him.”

Keith Swift,
Was your son involved in gangs or stuff like that?

Jacqueline Crawford,
“He hanged around my brother so…Floyd is somebody who he hangs out and thing and I know he is not a goody two shoes but they didn’t have to kill him like that.”

The senseless murder is hard for Floyd’s sister Melanie. She today still wore a t-shirt with her uncle’s picture on it.

Melanie Gladden,
“I don’t know of any reason why they wanted to hurt my brother. I just want to tell them to stop the violence and put down the gun and thing because right now man and man just the kill each other and taking it for fun and that isn’t gelling right now. Only that I want to tell them.”

And now Melanie and the rest of Pink’s Alley - which has already spray painted Cinco Seis’s name on a wall in the alley – is mourning the loss of another one of its soldiers.

Again a 15 year old of a Warrie Street address has been charged for Floyd “Cinco Seis” Gladden. And responding to the community’s concern about the latest wave of gunplay and violent crime, the Commissioner of Police and his senior command will hold a press conference tomorrow.
