Musa Weighs In on Proposed Constituency Allowance Cuts
posted (October 23, 2026)
And while he didn't want to comment on the "silos" statement, does he agree with Espat that area reps' allowances should be cut? Deputy Prime Minister Cordel Hyde had made the suggestion and he said it would be discussed in Cabinet next week. The Prime Minister explained that those allowances are what area reps use to assist their constituents. So we asked Musa whether he does the same:

Reporter:
"Do you use your own personal allowances to assist your constituents?"

Kareem Musa:
"I use my allowances and then some in my constituency, and I think most area reps and most ministers do use their allowances for that purpose. I do understand the symbolic nature of the gesture of giving up the allowances. It will result in, of course, less and less constituents having the type of support that they may need. But I would support the cutting of allowances. But again, there has to be that understanding that less constituents wouldn't be receiving assistance as well."
