There was some excitement at the Port Of Belize this morning when an emissary, reportedly from the Belize Bank, arrived at the Port - accompanied by police.
Some thought that the bank was there with reinforcements to take over the facility, but it turns out, they only went there to deliver a letter, but because entrance had been barred, police were brought along to make sure that delivery was effected.
It was - and that was the end of it - but with the Port reported to be in a precarious state with its bankers, port workers have been on a hair trigger.
According to sources - which spoke to us on the condition of anonymity - the letter does not concern receivership - but does pertain to the generalized dispute between the bank and the port.
The issue - as we understand it - remains at a standoff between the Bank and the Luke Espat ownership group which retains possession and control of the facility...
