At this morning, the landings 5 book was also launched locally. The actual
exhibition is on the walls of the Art Museum of the America's in Washington.
It features pieces regional artists, including Santiago Cal, Michael Gordon,
and Yasser Musa from Belize. Cultural Ambassador Joan Duran told us why Landings
matters.
Joan Duran, Art Ambassador
"The interesting thing about this Washington exhibition is that although
there was no conspiracy, it coincides with the theme of the, you know the music
of the day in which there is all this talk about immigration policy. And it
is interesting because a couple days before when I was flying back on Saturday
I opened a Washington Post and there is a little note on Landings 5 and they
make these references on Landings dealing with a hot topic of the day in Washington
with immigration and interesting it was something that was not premeditated
which it proves that the artist are good, they are smart, and they are concerned
about lives and realities and violence and the whole global situation."
The exhibition runs through to September 15th. Landings 6 will be held next
November in Havana.
