Sampson Boateng Smuggled Africans to USA thru Belize
posted (April 24, 2008)

After he was busted in Belize last November with a stash of travel documents, Ghanaian Sampson Boateng was handed over to American authorities. And on Tuesday before a judge in a Washington D.C. courtroom, Boateng pled guilty to one count of conspiracy and three counts of bringing aliens to the United States for profit.

It was alleged that between June 2006 and February 2007 Boateng helped smuggle the aliens from East Africa to the United States. A release from the United States says that the Africans came to Belize and with the help of a corrupt employee at the Mexican Embassy in Belize, they got fake Mexican visas. The Ghanaians would then travel through Mexico and ending in America. They paid about $5,000 by the time they reach America. He faces five to 15 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Upon completion of his sentence, Boateng will be removed from the United States. His co-conspirator in Mexico has been identified as Mohammed Kamel Ibrahim and he is awaiting extradition to the USA to face charges.

When Belize police raided Boateng’s home on Smith Street, they found passports for various countries, related documents and computers at that address. Documents and passports were also found in the toilet; presumably they were trying to flush away the evidence.
