Labor Day is Thursday which will be a holiday – which is why
tonight one of reggae’s leading ladies and one of its rising stars are
in Belize. They are Alaine and Demarco who will perform tomorrow night at the
Princess. They arrived this morning fresh from Canada and 7NEWS was
at the airport to greet them. Keith Swift has the story.
[Alaine performing ‘Rise in Love’]
That is the energy Alaine and Demarco brought with them when they arrived this
morning at the PGIA. The first order of business was receiving keys to the city
from Mayor Zenaida Moya. And while keys are symbolic – Alaine and Demarco
are here to deliver the real thing on the stage.
[Demarco Performing]
This is Alaine’s second trip to Belize but tomorrow night she’ll
be performing for the first time in Belize City.
Alaine, Performer
“I am so excited to be here, just the reception at the airport alone
was like overwhelming and it is great to be back. I can’t wait to get
going, get singing.”
Keith Swift,
What will be different this time around?
Alaine,
“Well a whole heap of vibes. I have had a year of experience since
I came here last and it is just going to be fun. I always bring a lot of love
and positivity to my shows and so it will be the same and even more.
I’ve been really blest to travel and take my music to different places.
I have also just become a producer so I’ve just put out my new riddim
which is called the secrets riddim which I produced with Don Coreleon who is
just the baddest producer so that is out now so look out for that. I am really
excited about that and I am branching off into different aspects of music. I
am still performing but now writing and producing.”
Keith Swift,
This will be your first performance in Belize City. What should people expect?
Alaine,
“Just a whole heap of love, whole heap of vibes – everything
that is me and I just want to see everybody there. I just hope it is so loud,
full to capacity and overcrowded. I can’t wait to see everybody.”
And while it is Alaine’s second trip – it is Demarco’s first.
Demarco, Performer
“I am just a cool youth that loves music. I love to create music and I am a good person. I am not really ignorant. I am just nice and love music.
Me is music.”
Keith Swift,
Tell us about ‘Fallen Soldiers.’
Demarco,
“It is a whole lot of friends I have that passed and gone so I made
the beat and then I wrote the song to dedicate it to people that passed away.
It will be a good performance, whole heap of energy, and thing. I just hope
everybody come and turn out and make the thing nice.”
Tomorrow’s concert will be at the Princess poolside.
