It is one of the few beauty pageants in which size does matter, where
bigger is better. We are talking about the Miss Big and Beautiful Pageant which
will be held tomorrow night at the Bird’s Isle. It is held annually to
raise money for the Jump Street Carnival Band but it has taken on a life of
its own in a culture that loves nothing more than a good spectacle. This year
there are six contestants and Keith Swift met three of them this afternoon at
the Smoky Mermaid.
Keith Swift Reporting,
They are big – and these women aren’t afraid to flaunt it because
say they are also beautiful.
Cindy Rowland, Contestant
“My name is Cindy Rowland and I am representing Belize. The reason
why I came into this pageant is it is Miss Big and Beautiful and look at I.
I am big and beautiful and I just want to show off my talent and what I have.”
Rhonda Burgess, Contestant
“My name is Rhonda Burgess and I am Miss Guyana in the Miss Big and
Beautiful Pageant. It is time for us beautiful women to show what we have.”
Jennifer Wade, Contestant
“My name is Miss Jennifer Wade and I represent Miss Trinidad and Tobago.
I decided to enter this pageant because it is a pageant for big people and I
find myself as being somebody big.”
And because they are big, these women say they can do what some skinny girls
can’t.
Cindy Rowland,
“We have a lot in store for them. We have a lot to flaunt, to give
them, to show off and it is for a worthy cause. Everyone knows it is for a worthy
cause so just come out and support, have fun. I am definitely sure you will
have fun when you see what we have to give off. Come out tomorrow night, bring
all your family and come and see this beautiful body do something for you.”
Rhonda Burgess,
“Come and see us big and beautiful girls wining in our bathing suit,
we’re going to dance in bath suit, lingerie, everything. Just come out
for a nice and beautiful night.”
Jennifer Wade,
“I guess you all should come out and see us because we are going to
do a lot of things and we are going to have a lot of fun and we are going to
make you get crazy.”
Marina Wellcome, Organizer
“They will be seeing the introduction segment, the lingerie, that
is a new segment for this year, the swimsuit, carnival costume, talent, and
the evening wear. It is time for fun. They will be having the time of their
life tomorrow night so please make sure you do not miss the show.”
