And from a public spectacle to a matter of state. Today, the New Administration
Building in Belmopan, was officially renamed as the “Sir Edney Cain Building."
The ribbon was cut by Prime Minister Hon. Dean Barrow and Lady Leonie Cain,
widow of the late Sir Edney, as he was affectionately known. PM Barrow commented
on the singularity of Sir Edney.
Hon. Dean Barrow, Prime Minister
“He was one of the most distinguished Belizeans of the last century.
Edney was in the truest possible sense of the term a renaissance man. In other
words, while he was particularly distinguished by his ability, talent, and record
in the field of economics, in the field of accounting, remember that he was
also one of our foremost poets. He was a lover of literature and the arts. He
was a musician. He was in other words, accomplished across the board and that
is why I think that it is entirely appropriate that I recollect the fact that
he qualified to be one of Belize’s true renaissance man.”
We’re told that following this, the other administration building
in Belize City, Complex as it’s called, will soon be named the Charles
Bartlett Hyde building.
