Anthony Mahler, he was the head of product development at the Belize Tourism
Board and he was also a former PUP City Council candidate. And when the new
government terminated him in March it was seen as just a necessary part of regime
change house cleaning. But it's turned out to be a costly termination because
Mahler had two years left on his 4 year contract. His attorney Godfrey Smith,
who also happens to have been his Minister when the contract was inked, challenged
the termination in court.
And it didn’t even have to go before a judge. Based on a settlement offer
made by the BTB at the case management stage, Mahler was awarded $185,000 for
the abrupt contract termination. His job was taken up by a successful UDP City
Council aspirant, Laura Esquivel.
