Earlier this week we showed you the Canadian military building new
homes for flood victims in Hope Creek. They are on a good will mission and that
continued today with the donation of a new car to the ITVET in Belize City.
Keith Swift has the details.
Keith Swift Reporting,
This is the 1999 Ford Escort. This morning Canada’s Major Claude Villeneuve
handed over the keys to Education Minister Patrick Faber but the car will be
used by ITVET students.
Sheldon Samuels, Manager – ITVET
“For some time we have been requesting vehicles from the Ministry
and from whomever we could have gotten vehicles to assist our trainees in terms
of teaching aid as well as when they are doing their practical for the national
exam. As you are aware the national exam is called the Belize National Qualification
Exam and for that definitely we need vehicles like what we have gotten from
the Canadian government.
The automotive program here at ITVET is one of the best and this vehicle
donated by the Canadian government will definitely come in handy in terms of
when we are doing the national exams and we are doing the different components
of contents within the curriculum we have to look at areas such as the brakes,
we have to look at the ignition systems, the transmission, and so forth and
so it gives a great opportunity to use a new vehicle, a good vehicle in terms
tearing down the parts and building them back up and giving the trainees the
best opportunities in the best environment to make sure they get the best out
of the learning experience.”
Major Villeneuve says there was a need and the Canada’s civil military
team was glad to help.
Major Claude Villeneuve, Canadian Military
“This car has been bought and provided to ITVET because it is a new
car, it has got new technology that is used here in Belize, which was missing
in the previous car and that is why we bought this car.”
The car is valued at $8,000.
