To the People’s United Party their Leader Emeritus George Price was the
national hero and Phillip Goldson was the national patriot, distinguished with
an “Order of Belize.” But now Phillip Goldson will be able to share
the hero spotlight with Price. 7 years after his death, Goldson will be conferred
the Order of the National Hero on September 18th.
Goldson is one of 12 Belizeans who will be honoured at the tribute to the Belizean
patriots. They include former Prime Minister and current advisor with ministerial
rank Rt. Hon. Manuel Esquivel who will be conferred with the Order of Belize.
Also to be honoured are Leigh Richardson, Senior Counsel Lois Young, and Senator
Godwin Hulse. They will receive Orders of Distinction.
Meritorious service awards will be given to Elito Urbina for the public service,
Dolores B. Lin for education and community service, Modesto Madrill for community
service, George Frazer for education, trade union, and the public service, and
Zebedee Pitterson, Agripino Espejo, and Victor August for community service.
The honours will be bestowed by the Governor General on September 18th at the
Bliss Center. We note that Phillip Goldson received the Order of Belize in September
of 2001. He died less than a month later. George Price received his national
hero honour one year earlier in September of 2000.
