Tonight we regret to announce the death of Therese Felix, the Vice
President of Mothers Organized for Peace. Reports are that on Saturday, the
46 year old Felix suddenly fell ill following an acute attack of asthma and
died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. In the past two years Felix had
emerged as a grassroots community leader, speaking out against the violence
that plagues Belize City and has taken the lives of two of her sons Tyrone and
Faron Felix, the oldest and youngest of her six children.
Today MOP’s President Erwin X spoke about the untimely passing
of Therese Felix and said that more than ever the work the end the gun violence
must continue. Up until the time of her death Therese Felix continued to work
with youths and students through talks and presentations she delivered at schools
and events.
Erwin X, President – MOP
“As a mother she did not encourage her children in violence and in
the war and what she brought to the table being the Vice President of Mother’s
Organized for Peace and a proponent for the organizing of our young people is
that she was always ready to work. She explained to young people that although
she suffered the loss of two sons, her oldest and her youngest son, her baby,
she will not stop the fight and she will not turn against humanity because of
the senseless loss of life and she always challenged young people to be strong.”
It is not certain if two of Therese Felix sons who are in prison will
be allowed to attend their mother’s funeral. Funeral arrangements are
still being finalized.
