Ladyville police have been busy catching, arresting and charging burglars who’ve
been terrorizing that village. Two weeks ago, it was a group of minors, and
now five men have been accused of breaking into the same house twice –
once in August and once in October. Today, the five made their appearances at
the Belize City Magistrate’s Court where two of them pleaded guilty to
handling stolen goods.
The men all Belize City residents have been identified as Ernie Miranda, Leon
Yorke, Anthony Sabido, Andrew Bennett and Lawrence Simpson. Miranda and Yorke
have been additionally charged with burglary. The five are accused of stealing
a number of electronic items from one residence in two separate incidents. Some
of the items have since been recovered by police at a pawn shop.
In front of Magistrate Albert Hoare, two of the accused Lawrence Simpson and
Andrew Bennett pled guilty to the charge of handling stolen goods and were immediately
fined one thousand dollars. Simpson and Bennett were both given until November
sixth to pay the money or spend two months in jail. The other three accused
Ernie Miranda, Leon Yorke and Anthony Sabido charged with burglary and handling
stolen goods. They pleaded not guilty, were offered bail and released. They
are scheduled to reappear in court on October fourteenth.
