The police don’t need a close up of poverty, because they deal
with society’s ills every day. It is perhaps the most thankless –
and the most criticized of jobs. And that’s why the top brass at the Eastern
Division has re-instituted the officer of the month award – as a way of
giving thanks to those police who go above and beyond. A ceremony was held today,
and Officer in Charge of Eastern Division David Henderson said that it’s
important to say, “job well done.”
Sr. Supt. David Henderson, Eastern Division Commander
“I believe in order to have people work hard and really put in their
all, there must be some incentive to really work and this is one of our incentives.”
Allan Whylie, Assistant Commissioner of Police
“I know we’ve just completed a very taxing and trying time on
our hands, the September celebrations activities. Many many demands were made
from police officers across the length and breadth of this country but in particular
Eastern Division where the bulk of the activities took place. I know that many
of you had little time to spend with your families because of the constant detailing
that you did.”
Zenaida Moya, Mayor of Belize City
“Every time you leave the door, especially those who are on the ground,
your families worry about you and hope that you will return home safely. Your
children, your husbands, your wives, whoever it is, your mother, your brother,
your sister whoever, and so the community policing, all the community service
initiatives I believe will pan out, we will start to see the fruits of it.”
Sr. Supt. David Henderson,
“This month we will be looking at each of the branches within the
Belize District and personnel who really go the extra mile in order to ensure
that crime is at an acceptable level will be rewarded.”
The officer of the month was Constable 213 Lawrence Jones. 15 other
officer were also honoured with certificates and prizes.
