He may have been able to survive being shot seven times from close range but
eight months after the near death experience, twenty one year old Delroy Matura
is tonight fighting another battle, in court for an offense he committed last
year. On April tenth, 2007 Delroy Matura was arrested and charged after police
saw him throw a firearm into a nearby drain. Police recovered a nine milimeter
pistol from the area which was loaded with eleven live rounds of ammunition.
The gun had been reported stolen by a KBH security guard.
Well today Delroy Matura appeared in Belize City Magistrate’s Court where
he denied the allegation and told the Magistrate the police found the gun on
someone else. He was nevertheless found guilty. Because he has no previous convictions
and because the offence was committed before the firearms act was amended, he
has until December thirty first to pay two fines each of ten thousand dollars.
If Delroy Matura is unable to come up with the money, he will spend three years
in jail for each ten thousand dollar fine.
