Rennick Reneau was killed one year ago, and his decomposed body was
found in the Ladyville area. His family still doesn’t have any answers
and as Jacqueline Godwin found out, not knowing is killing them.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
The body was found here on the road that leads into the Vista Del Mar and tonight
there are still no leads in the murder case.
Lavern Olivera, Mother of murder victim
“Oh terrible terrible terrible. Sleepless nights, I don’t sleep.
I barely sleep. We get all kinds of threats but I don’t study them. All
kinds of things, they call on the phone and say all kinds of things, they say
I will be next but I don’t study them, I just leave them right there.”
Police say the case remains open but the family is not pleased. Lavern Olivera
maintains that a shooting incident three days before her son was killed is connected
to the homicide. But that case was closed due to lack of evidence. Since then the family has been trying to get the DPP’s office to revisit the investigation
that the family claims does implicate a policeman.
Lavern Olivera,
“The case gone and they didn’t even come and said the case done.
I had to go and find out on my own at the DPP office and I said no that can’t
happen. This policeman shoot after my son and I want justice with this policeman.
I the look that if my son had shot off a weapon, my son would have been charged.
This policeman when shot after my son, and we have people, that’s why
I want the DPP answer me why she has the file, why doesn’t she answer
me that this policeman can’t get charged. This policeman did this off
duty and I have people who went, if she wants people to give statements I have
people who were with my son. If my son had shoot a gun my son would have been
charged. He shot after my son and he caught his brother. If my son didn’t
block that gun, my son would have been shot then what would happen. They would
say he didn’t do it neither. I want the DPP to look at this case. This
man shoot off this gun.”
Belize City police would only tell 7NEWS that the
murder case remains open. Jacqueline Godwin reporting for 7NEWS.
