Over the weekend Belize’s DJ Richie went head to head with some
of the Caribbean’s top deejays in the semi-finals of the Heineken Green
DJ Competition and he came out on top. His win earned him a spot in next week’s
regional finals in Curacao. DJ Richie won in Jamaica with ease, beating deejays
from Bahamas, Cayman Islands, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Bermuda in the semi-finals.
DJ Richie and friends dropped by our studios to tell us about his victory.
DJ Richie, Advanced to Finals
“First time I was in front of a crowd like that, 4,000 people and
nobody knew me, Jamaicans who are very patriotic and they are all about DJ,
DJ Jigga and for me to go there and win at their home court on his home ground
was marvellous. I never believed it, it was unbelievable.”
DJ Busch,
“I was actually one of the judges for the whole competition this time
in Jamaica but sitting there was a very proud moment for me, just know the joy
was in me but I couldn’t show it because I am telling you the representation
we got for Belize from DJ Richie was energy from the beginning to the end. Richie
really took it to a level and overall for the whole night he was the man of
the hour. For 15 minutes it was straight energy, he connected with the people
like as his first song dropped until his last speech, it was all about Richie.”
DJ Richie,
“Dah never DJ Ritchie they were hollering, it was Belize. Man I was
so proud, all of us. The guys who were with me, one of them cried because they
never believed small Belize, underrated Belize would reach that level and just
in 15 minutes conquer. Some people took years to try get a name in Jamaica and
we did it in 15 minutes.”
Nigel Petillo, Travelled with DJ Richie
“DJ Richie has put Belize on the map. Richie big dah Jamaica right
now and Jamaica is expecting more from Richie.”
Both DJ Richie and DJ Jigga from Jamaica advanced to the finals. This
is the 5th annual Green Synergy deejay competition. The only other Belizean
to participate in the competition is DJ Busch.
