And while UB students went in the river valley, tonight the Chinese
Association is in flood ravaged Cayo. This week the Chinese Association appealed
to members to help and they did – two truck loads of goods. This afternoon
Chinese Association President Lee Mark Chang and Vice President Eric Chang packed
$7,000 worth of canned food, ramen noodles, toilet paper, pampers, and other
necessities into a truck. They were westbound and it was their second trip for
the week. Lee Mark and Eric told us why the Chinese community stepped up.
Lee Mark Chang, President – Chinese Association
“We had some phone calls coming in from some of our friends out west
and they’ve requested help for the flood victims out in the Cayo District.
We had a meeting with the Belize Chinese Association and we’ve decided
to ask the Chinese community to help for the needy people in Cayo.”
Keith Swift,
What are some of the things you’re taking?
Lee Mark Chang,
“It is a miscellaneous amount of supplies; we have bread noodles,
toilet paper, mainly basic daily necessities that will be of use to the flood
victims.”
Eric Chang, Vice President – Chinese Association
“This da we country and people need help and so that’s why we
came out and help. I saw people in the flood and I could see they are hurt and
that’s why we called an emergency meeting of the Belize Chinese Association
and we came out the Tuesday morning and we started to raise the food items for
the victims, the flood victims.”
Of course it is still not too late for you to chip in and help –
you can contact any branch office of the red cross and offer assistance.
