And while David Gabourel was killed, another taxi driver is lucky to
be alive after he was jacked and stabbed 27 times on Sunday morning. He is 24
year old Leon Young who lies critically wounded in the hospital. He was stabbed
20 times in the lower right chest, once to the lower left hand, another to the
back of his upper left shoulder, three times to his back, once to the lower
right hand, and once to the left side of the face.
6 people, the youngest only 13 years old, have been charged. We’ll
tell you who they are shortly but first Assistant Superintendent of Police and
Commander of the Crimes Investigation Branch at Eastern Division ASP Julio Valdez
described the brutal attack which happened after 3 on Sunday morning.
ASP Julio Valdez, CIB Commander
“At the corner of West Landivar and Princess Margaret Drive he was
stopped by two females and four male persons who asked to take them to Dolphin Park by the West Landivar area. Upon reaching close the struggle ensued whereby
someone grabbed him from behind and they started to stab him to his chest and
back area causing him to put brakes to his vehicle and doing so the other person
came out of the vehicle and went where he was and continued stabbing him. That
is why he received those multiple stab wounds. Stolen from him was his grey
in colour Siemens brand cellular phone,a wrist watch, and some cash of $125.”
This afternoon in court 6 persons were charged. 5 are from Belize
City and one is a resident of Camalote Village. 21-year-old Kenroy Caine and
19-year-old Michael Gladden have been charged alongside a 17-year-old boy, a
15 year-old boy, and two females – one age 13 from Belize City and the
other age 16 from Camalote Village. We can’t tell you their names because
they are under age. They were however arraigned this evening before Chief Magistrate
Margaret McKenzie.
They were all charged for attempted murder, robbery, and handling stolen
goods because Young’s watch was found on them. In addition they were charged
for conspiracy to commit robbery. The 15 year old was also charged for use of
deadly means of harm and dangerous harm. Bail was denied. Caine and Gladden
were remanded to the Hattieville Prison while the minors were sent to the youth

under the influence of alcohol at the time.
