He had a steady job, never spent a day in jail, and he was a devoted
father which is why Robert Brown’s family is tonight asking “why.”
The 28 year old was stabbed to death on Friday night and the prime suspects
are siblings Wyatt and Nekia Anderson who are on the run. Keith Swift has the
story.
Keith Swift Reporting,
Robert Brown was killed at the very spot I am standing here on Raccoon Street.
Witnesses say that sometime after midnight on Friday – Robert Brown and
his girlfriend got into argument. She left and later returned with her brother
who pulled out a knife and then allegedly stabbed Robert Brown in the chest.
Robert Brown died from that single stab wound to the chest from the 12 inch
knife. A witness who asked not to tell you his name or show you his face –
saw the entire incident unfold.
Eyewitness,
“He and his girlfriend were quarrelling. When he came from work, she
just started to trip on him, cursing him, and throwing Guinness on him and then
poured a little bit of stout back on her and she get vex, went around the lane
and then they were at the corner of the lane talking for like an hour and change.
Then my little boy came back here and we were hanging. He was standing in front
of the yard and I just saw her brother bust around the lane on his bicycle.
He braked behind my friend boy and he jumped off his bike and he just stabbed
my friend.”
Keith Swift,
You know why they attacked him?
Eyewitness,
“Cause the man said my friend did his something so he came after him.”
Robert’s mom Lisbeth Brown Pitterson was already home and in bed when
there was a knock on her door.
Lisbeth Pitterson, Mother of Deceased
“My daughter and my little sister came and told me that Robert is
dead and I said no, no, no Robert is not dead. Then the police came in and said
he is dead. He opened the phone and he showed me the picture and he asked if this was my son. I said yes but he is not dead. He said my son was dead and
he needed me to go by the morgue and identify the body and that is what I did.”
Keith Swift,
What injuries did the body have?
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“I just saw a hole by the heart, that’s all. His eyes were opened
and his mouth was opened and I just hold his mouth and told him, ‘Robert
close your mouth and shut your eyes because your mom has come now.’ That
is all I did. That’s all.”
Lisbeth Pitterson says her son’s murder is puzzling because she has never
met - or even heard of the girlfriend who is allegedly at the center of the
killing.
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“After work he came home and put down, you know you take your lunch
and bring home what you left, and he put it down and he went back and took a
circle. That is all I know.”
Keith Swift,
Did he tell you where he was going?
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“When he comes home, he usually puts down his thing and go and takes
a circle and come back but I don’t know.”
Keith Swift,
Police said he had an argument with his girlfriend Nekia Anderson. You’re
saying you don’t know her?
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“Nope, only one person I know and that is the young lady he has the
son with. I don’t know nobody else. He didn’t bring any young lady
and say this is my girlfriend. The only thing I know he wished for is that he
wanted him and his baby’s mother to make up and that’s all.”
But that can’t happen now which is why this mother is in grief. She still
has her son’s bike where he usually left it - at the entrance of her living
room - one of the few remaining memories of her first born son.
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“He was not a problem child, he was just a kind young man, always
smiling, and hmm, it’s hard. It is hard, it is really hard but it is God’s
work. The Lord gives and the Lord takes so I can’t do anything about it.
I just have to live with it until I die.”
Keith Swift,
What do you want to say to his killer?
Lisbeth Pitterson,
“Well I don’t have anything to say to the killer. The only thing
I will say is that I will leave it to God. I’ll leave it in God’s
hands and that’s all.”
A post mortem will be conducted tomorrow. Robert Brown was an assistant
miller at ADM Belize Mills for 3 years. He has a 7 year old son. Police say
they have not been able to detain the Anderson siblings. Anyone with information
on the whereabouts of Nekia or Wyatt Anderson can call the nearest police station
or Crime Stoppers at 0-800-922-TIPS.
