Two teenagers, one thirteen, the other nineteen are believed to be the pair
of burglars who broke into the homes of two Ladyville residents in one week.
Because the younger thief is a minor we cannot reveal his identity but his partner
in crime is nineteen year old Elward Mckay. It is not known what role if any
the younger boy played in the first incident that on November eighteenth but
on that day Elward McKay chose to break into his own uncles’ home.
The homeowner Douglas Bucknor was not at home but Elward McKay was seen entering
the premises on the Old Airport Road. McKay reportedly left the residence with
jewelery valuing over eight hundred dollars. Ladyville Police were later able
to track down the stolen items at a pawn shop.
Seven days later Elward McKay was back in business this time with the help
of the thirteen year old and the pair made their way onto the property of Vista
Del Mar resident Andre Bradley. The duo had already managed to break the back
door but they were not able to get into the home because they were spotted by
two policemen on mobile patrol. They ran and police pursued only catching the
thirteen year old.
Today both were taken over to Belize City Magistrate’s Court where they
were jointly charged with one count of damage to property and one count of burglary
upon Andre Bradley’s home. Elward McKay was additionally charged with
one count of burglary after entering the home of Douglas Bucknor and one count
of handling stolen goods.
In court, the police prosecutor objected to bail for Elward McKay explaining
to Magistrate Tracy Sosa that the accused presently has against him two other
charges of handling stolen goods and a burglary pending in court and if allowed
to leave, he would steal again. The court agreed with the prosecution and Elward
McKay was remanded to Hattieville Prison until January nineteenth 2009. The
thirteen year old minor was offered and met bail.
