Senior Superintendent of Police Robert Mariano has been suspended by the Security
Services Commission for suspicion of involvement with contraband. Commissioner
of Police Gerald Westby confirmed that the Department had conducted and investigation
and made a recommendation to the Security Services Commission.
And based on that recommendation, the man who was the second in charge of Eastern
Division was placed on suspension effective December 15TH.
On Saturday, November 15th Mariano was intercepted by Customs inside Belize
City with a case of un-customed Appleton Rum inside his Department-issued Montero.
The Customs team had seen a known contrabandist put the rum inside Mariano’s
vehicle. Senior Superintendent Mike Segura is rumoured for the post.
